If you do not plan to climb Machu Picchu, there are two ways as to how to get there from Cusco. It is possible to take a taxi to Poroy (which takes less than 40 minutes) or to Ollantaytambo (slightly over 2.5 hours), than take a train to Machu Picchu station (it is better to take a morning/day train, so to be able to see more - nature there is amazing, if you want to see Ollantaytambo site which is an interesting place evening options might work as well and it will be cheaper too) and than a bus (takes slightly less than 30 minutes). Buses depart from early morning and usually there are long queues for boarding. It is advisable to book tickets to Machu Picchu site in advice as there are restrictions on the number of people admitted daily.
